| When you're behind the wheel, your only job is to drive. That's the emphasis that the National Safety Council is stressing this month in their Distracted Driving Awareness Campaign. As a fire department, we respond to many incidents involving motor vehicle accidents. Some of them single vehicle on their own, some involving multiple vehicles and others are vehicles vs. pedestrians or someone on a bicycle. Could some of these incidents have been caused by distracted driving? Perhaps or very likely, but we're not the investigators. Regardless of that, distracted driving does happen and unfortunately most of us are all too prone to it. Reports show that out of the ~115 auto deaths a day, 8 of them are from distracted driving and not all of them because of cellphones.
Take a moment this month to reflect upon the messaging in these posters and maybe we can all try to adjust some of our habits and become more "aware" while we are driving. Safety in our business is more than just fire. Our desire is that everyone in Glenham and all of our surrounding communities remain free from harm.
We'll update these informational posters at different points throughout the month of April.
