The Glenham Fire Department is proud to recognize Mark Matthews, Jr. as our April Member of the Month!

Mark joined the department in 2010 and has since become an integral part of our team. Over the years, he has served in multiple leadership roles, including Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Treasurer, and District Commissioner (2017–2026). Today, he continues to lead as Captain, taking on responsibilities such as training, reporting, supporting the Chiefs, and contributing to numerous department initiatives.

Mark is also deeply involved in our community events and fundraising efforts, including Slaterpalooza, parades, and our Pancake Breakfast. No matter the task, he’s always ready to lend a hand or offer guidance.

His dedication to the fire service extends beyond the department. Mark is a National Pro-Board Certified Firefighter I and has completed a wide range of state training courses. He holds an Associate’s degree in Fire & Occupational Safety, a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science Management, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration.

Professionally, Mark has built an impressive career in fire and life safety. He has served as a Fire Safety Manager at Mount Sinai Hospital, Plant Maintenance Supervisor at Greenwich Hospital, and is currently the Director of Facilities at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center.

Fire service runs in the family—Mark proudly serves alongside his wife, Stephanie, his father, Mark Sr., and his brother, Timothy.

🗣️ “Joining Glenham back in 2010 was one of the most influential life decisions I have made. This team inspired me so much I changed my educational and career journeys. Since 2013, a significant portion of my day job has been dedicated to managing fire and life safety for patients and staff—something I would have never discovered if it wasn’t for joining. Outside of work, I’m proud to support the hamlet I grew up in through emergency response and community engagement.”

We’re incredibly proud to have Mark as part of our department and look forward to his continued growth and leadership.
